New website live

In 2023, my first model appeared as a construction kit in the range of Kolderstok: the Cross-section of a 17th-century Pinas. Hans van Nieuwkoop, owner of Kolderstok, has built up a beautiful portfolio of 16th- and 17th-century sailing ships over the past 10 years. Designing a model is the first step, but turning it into a construction kit takes a lot of work. Hans has a lot of experience with this, and I am very grateful to have been able to share in that experience. For example: where do you get all the materials suitable for model building? Wood, rope, brass, blocks, etc. What do you need to consider when writing assembly instructions?

The cross-section has been available for purchase via the Kolderstok website since 2023. In the meantime, I have been working on a new model, the Wide Ship/Narrow Ship. It is now almost ready for production. With the release of this second model, I felt it was time to launch my own platform. This website will initially serve as a webshop. I hope to add a new model every few years. In the future, I also want to add useful information and tips for builders of ship models. But first, the finishing touches of the Wijschip/Smalschip model. You can already find some information on this website. Orders can be placed starting in September; a news item about this will follow. If you are interested, please contact us.

I would also like to take this opportunity to thank Ab Hoving for his help. He shares his thorough knowledge of Dutch shipbuilding in the 17th century in books and online, and has provided me with many sources and valuable feedback during the development of both the cross-section and the wide ship/narrow ship.
